workshop description

7 Ajayus for creation

“Ajayu” in the Aymara language means: soul, spirit, essence. In the Andean worldview, the human being is made up of 7 ajayus (spirits, souls, essences). All of them are related to the integral development of our life and the environment we build every day: nature, community, family, workplace, human relationships, universe, etc. Based on this holistic perspective, we will seek to awaken the physical interpreter and its multiple souls, to achieve its technical emancipation and link it to the ancestral traditions of the peoples of Latin America.

The seminar invites you to experience a collective, playful and ritual theatrical practice, based on the concept of sustainable development of our native peoples. To do so, we will explore different traditional dances from the Bolivian Altiplano: Pujllay, tinku, morenada, waka tokoris, zapateo potosino. Focusing on their expressive force and strong theatrical content.

The group of participants will embark on a collective journey, focusing on stage presence and shared breathing. Through this encounter, we will seek to reach those “high states of acting” that are perceived by inhabiting the present in one’s own flesh. This is not a mystical or new age practice. It is a tangible theatrical practice and a fertile path for theatrical creation. This event is a reminder of the infinite possibilities to create, imagine, manifest and embody our own theatrical voice.
