JESTERS
Creative immersion module

workshop description

Jesters — the joke that stings

Module 2 of the creative immersion triptych

Description

Jesters unsettle, exaggerate, and parody… but not only outwardly. They also point out internal cracks, self-deceptions, and those aspects of ourselves we prefer to ignore.

In this module, we explore the jester as an inner force that acts as a distorted mirror: it reflects the tensions of the community and reveals the symptoms of its own imbalances. From this ambiguous territory—vulnerable, grotesque, sharp, and lucid—we will work with laughter, discomfort, and the fissure as gateways to honest and radical expressiveness.

It is a space to inhabit the uncomfortable, to touch the wound, and to discover how the ridiculous can open new avenues of creativity, presence, and transformation.

Methodology and work approach

The proposal combines physical, vocal, expressive and performative practices to activate the jester principle in the body, voice and different expressive modalities:

  • physical and vocal examinations to find deformities, crooked rhythms, and clownish musicality

  • Imaginal activation exercises to connect with the ambiguous, elusive, and provocative energy of the jester.

  • Intuitive drawing work and spaces for exploration from the plastic arts

  • writing from the marginal, the excessive, the taboo and the grotesque

  • dynamics to discover the collective figure of the jester as a group body:

The approach seeks to open up territories of expression, release tensions and explore the ridiculous, the uncomfortable and the profound, rather than generate traditional stage results.

Who is it aimed at?

For people who have completed Module 1: Swindlers – the art of twisting the path.

Performers, stage creators, performers and people interested in exploring the imagination through the body, the mask and distorted humor.

No prior experience is required: just curiosity, a willingness to play with the grotesque and enter uncomfortable zones, and a desire to laugh at yourself.

Note on the approach

The work is based on the tradition of physical and mask theatre linked to Jacques Lecoq's pedagogywhere distortion, exaggeration, and fissure are understood as tools for knowledge and play. It engages in dialogue with the depth psychology, viewing the jester as an internal symptom and collective mirror, and is inspired by methodologies of Thomas Prattki Center of embodied creation that connect body, mask and imaginal poetics.
