Devised Theatre
Space, movement and play

workshop description

Devised theatre

A course for actors, clowns, dancers, storytellers, theatre creators, improvisers, singers, comedians and in general for anyone who wants to add greater detail and depth to their work.

What is devised theatre?

A way of referring to an approach to theatre creation. This approach focuses on the relationship between the body and the space it inhabits.

This relationship between body and space is what we can call play: a state of presence and availability where emotion, pleasure and intuition govern.

Furthermore, greater articulation and sensitivity towards the expressive potential of body language allows us to handle the stage space in a more creative way. It brings us into closer contact with the imagination of the spectator, where words cannot reach.

Finally, practice helps us train and develop a sense of stage timing (duration, tempo, rhythm, tension, rest). It allows us to bring musicality to both performance and writing, whether dramatic or comic.

What we will work on in the workshop:

The workshop has a strong creative component. It offers tools that participants can put into practice in their own staging projects in the future.

Over the course of these two days we will oscillate between games and exercises that allow us to observe principles related to movement; improvisations that allow us to explore these principles from the stage; and an approach to composition.

Exploration elements:

– The body in space.

– Ensemble work: the collective body,

– Play as the driving force of the scene.

– The poetic body. Being and imagination.

– Time in stage crafting.

– Improvisation.

– Silence and its relation with words.

- Composition.

About Carlos

Carlos Cegarra is a performing artist who has developed his practice over the last 20 years as an actor, creator and stage director, and facilitator of creative processes. His teaching work has led him to be part of educational projects in multiple countries as well as higher education institutions in different parts of the world.

Graduated in 2010 from the London International School of Performing Arts under the direction of Thomas Prattki. Since then, Carlos has continued to investigate gestural theater, theatrical play, the mask as a ritual element and as a pedagogical tool, the intersections between dance and theater as well as other avenues of study and learning through movement.

Currently, her interest is oriented towards integral processes of the body that allow the acquisition of greater creative autonomy, and the development of a performing practice where the personal, the interpersonal and the myth can meet.

He is director of the Enkidu Teatro company.
